Anthony Marquez is an accomplished actor and martial artist, best known to fans around the world as the original live-action performer behind Kung Lao in Mortal Kombat II and Mortal Kombat 3. A skilled practitioner of MMA, Sanshou, and Wushu, Marquez brings authentic martial arts mastery to every role he takes on.
Voted Rookie of the Year by NASKA (North American Sport Karate Association) in 1989, Marquez joined Midway Games during the golden age of arcade fighting games. His debut as Kung Lao in Mortal Kombat II helped shape one of the franchise’s most beloved characters, a role he reprised in Mortal Kombat 3 and subsequent releases including Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Mortal Kombat Advance, and Midway Arcade Treasures 2.
In addition to portraying Kung Lao, Marquez also performed as a ninja in Revolution X and as the Wind God—later named Fujin—in Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, further cementing his legacy in the Mortal Kombat universe.
Today, Anthony Marquez continues to inspire new generations through his work as a martial arts instructor in Chicago, where he teaches MMA, Sanshou, and Wushu with the same intensity and discipline that defined his on-screen performances.
